The Island Ecology and Evolution Research Group of IPNA-CSIC was created in May 2004, with the mission of investigating ecological and evolutionary processes in insular environments to characterise both their conservation value and requirements for long-term sustainability. To achieve this mission the group has recently recruited Dr Brent Emerson, an evolutionary biologist with research focusing primarily on the origin, maintenance and structure of species diversity, with a particular emphasis on island ecosystems. Previous to his position at IPNA-CSIC Brent was a Reader in Evolutionary Biology at the University of East Anglia, Norwich, UK.
